Learning Time Series Detection Models from Temporally Imprecise Labels

چکیده
In this paper, we consider a new low-quality label learning problem: learning time series detection models from temporally imprecise labels. In this problem, the data consist of a set of input time series, and supervision is provided by a sequence of noisy time stamps corresponding to the occurrence of positive class events. Such temporally imprecise labels commonly occur in areas like mobile health research where human annotators are tasked with labeling the occurrence of very short duration events. We propose a general learning framework for this problem that can accommodate different base classifiers and noise models. We present results on real mobile health data showing that the proposed framework significantly outperforms a number of alternatives including assuming that the label time stamps are noise-free, transforming the problem into the multiple instance learning framework, and learning on labels that were manually re-aligned.

Robust classification of multivariate time series by imprecise hidden Markov models
A novel technique to classify time series with imprecise hidden Markov models is presented. The learning of these models is achieved by coupling the EM algorithm with the imprecise Dirichlet model. In the stationarity limit, each model corresponds to an imprecise mixture of Gaussian densities, this reducing the problem to the classification of static, imprecise-probabilistic, information. Two c...
متن کاملInstance Influence Estimation for Hyperspectral Target Signature Characterization using Extended Functions of Multiple Instances
The Extended Functions of Multiple Instances (eFUMI) algorithm is a generalization of Multiple Instance Learning (MIL). In eFUMI, only bag level (i.e. set level) labels are needed to estimate target signatures from mixed data. The training bags in eFUMI are labeled positive if any data point in a bag contains or represents any proportion of the target signature and are labeled as a negative bag...

متن کاملCascaded Contextual Region-based Convolutional Neural Network for Event Detection from Time Series Signals: A Seismic Application
Automatic event detection from time series signals has wide applications, such as abnormal event detection in video surveillance and event detection in geophysical data. Traditional detection methods detect events primarily by the use of similarity and correlation in data. Those methods can be inefficient and yield low accuracy. In recent years, because of the significantly increased computatio...
متن کاملPartially-Hidden Markov Models
This paper addresses the problem of Hidden Markov Models (HMM) training and inference when the training data are composed of feature vectors plus uncertain and imprecise labels. The “soft” labels represent partial knowledge about the possible states at each time step and the “softness” is encoded by belief functions. For the obtained model, called a Partially-Hidden Markov Model (PHMM), the tra...
